"Often hands will solve a mystery
that the intellect has struggled with in vain."
Carl Jung
We believe that pain or discomfort related to the stress in our daily lives may be the voice that the mind cannot articulate. We invite you to investigate that voice and allow the therapist's hands to help unlock the mystery through the wisdom of your body.
STRESS REDUCTION THERAPY or SWEDISH MASSAGE
The primary intent of Stress Reduction or Swedish massage is to help the client relax and reduce tension and stress. The practitioner usually uses lighter pressure and long, continuous strokes. This massage often reduces mental and emotional anxiety by evoking the relaxation response. In addition to the general benefits of massage, this type of massage may also improve your quality of sleep.
DEEP TISSUE THERAPY
Deep tissue massage is a general term that includes a number of approaches to release tension in the muscles and soft tissues of the body. These modalities include, but are not limited to: Trigger Point Therapy, Neuromuscular Therapy, Rolfing and Myofascial Release. Essentially, deep tissue therapy is firm, engaged contact and may be used in combination with friction or stripping techniques. The intent is to loosen the tissue, increase blood flow to the area and promote healing in the affected muscles.
TRIGGER POINT THERAPY
Trigger point therapy is a general term applied to a variety of techniques or methods used to release trigger points. Trigger points are small hyper-irritable spots in muscle or related connective tissue that may cause local pain or pain in a distant referral zone. Trigger points may be relieved by ischemic compression techniques, deep tissue therapy and stretching. This type of therapy usually uses deep, sustained pressure to release the trigger point. It is many times used in combination with other types of therapy.
MYOFASCIAL RELEASE (MFR)
According to John Barnes, PT: Fascia is a tough connective tissue which spreads through the body in a three dimensional web from head to foot without interruption. Trauma, posture or inflammation can create a binding down of fascia, resulting in excessive pressure on nerves, muscles, blood vessels, bony structures and/or organs. This pressure can produce symptoms of pain, headaches and restricted mobility. MFR treats the entire mind-body complex, eliminating the restrictions in the fascia that causes symptoms through gentle application of sustained pressure to the fascial restrictions.
NEUROMUSCULAR THERAPY (NMT)
Neuromuscular Therapy is an approach to treatment of musculoskeletal pain. It involves a decision by the practitioner to which arena of pain to address based upon the client's presentation (Structural, Functional, Trigger Points or Neural.) Treatment includes working with fascia, muscle tissue, and tendons, individually and collectively. Many clients seek NMT for chronic pain syndromes and for rehabilitative purposes.
CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY (CST)
Craniosacral therapy is a light touch manipulation of the head and bottom of the spine to restore optimal cerebrospinal fluid movement. It can be especially useful in treating headaches, eye and ear problems, jaw problems, whiplash and back pain.
